2026 Boulder County Wildfire Rebate Program: Protect Your Home Before the Next Wildfire
Wildfires have become an unfortunate reality throughout Boulder County and Colorado’s Front Range. The devastating Marshall Fire demonstrated just how quickly homes and entire neighborhoods can be impacted by wind-driven wildfire events. As a result, homeowners are increasingly looking for proven wildfire prevention and mitigation strategies to better protect their properties.
Fortunately, Boulder County homeowners may qualify for financial assistance through the 2026 Wildfire Partners General Rebate Program. This program helps property owners complete specific wildfire mitigation improvements that can reduce the risk of a home igniting during a wildfire.
At Metro Reconstruction Services, Inc., we have firsthand experience helping property owners recover from wildfire damage, including reconstruction and cleanup efforts following the Marshall Fire. Our team understands what wildfire exposure can do to homes and what preventative measures can make a meaningful difference before disaster strikes.
If you’re considering wildfire mitigation improvements, Metro Reconstruction Services offers a FREE Fire Mitigation and Prevention Inspection and Evaluation to help identify vulnerabilities around your home.

What Is the Boulder County Wildfire Partners General Rebate Program?
The General Rebate Program is available to Boulder County residents who own or rent a home within Boulder County, including homes located within incorporated municipalities and the City of Boulder.
Eligible applicants may receive rebates for specific wildfire mitigation projects completed on their property.
If you previously received a rebate in 2024 or 2025, you may still qualify again in 2026, provided you complete a different mitigation activity than the one that was previously reimbursed.
For example, if you received a rebate for removing junipers in a previous year, you must select one or more different eligible mitigation actions for the 2026 program.
Eligible Wildfire Mitigation Projects for 2026
The following mitigation activities currently qualify for the 2026 General Rebate Program:
1. Junk Your Junipers
Juniper shrubs are highly combustible and can act as ladder fuels, allowing fire to spread quickly toward structures. Removing junipers located near your home can significantly reduce wildfire risk.
2. Fences Are Fuses
Wood fences attached directly to homes can act as a pathway for fire. Replacing or modifying the first five feet of fence connected to your house can help prevent flames from reaching the structure.
3. The First Five Feet
The first five feet surrounding your home is one of the most critical wildfire defense zones. Removing combustible vegetation, mulch, debris, and other fuel sources can dramatically improve your home’s survivability.
4. Vents for Defense
Wildfire embers frequently enter homes through attic and crawlspace vents. Installing ember-resistant vents can reduce the likelihood of ignition during a wildfire event.
5. Cut the Clutter
The area beneath decks often accumulates leaves, pine needles, debris, and combustible materials. Cleaning and mitigating these areas helps reduce ignition risks around your home.
6. Protect Home Base
The bottom six inches of siding is one of the most vulnerable areas during a wildfire. Proper mitigation measures can help reduce the likelihood of flames igniting the structure.
Why Home Hardening Matters
Many homeowners focus exclusively on vegetation management when preparing for wildfire season. While defensible space is important, modern wildfire science shows that home hardening is equally critical.
Home hardening focuses on reducing vulnerabilities within the structure itself, including:
- Combustible siding materials – Replacing EIFS with Hard Coat Stucco or Stone or Cement Siding
- Deck construction
- Vents and openings
- Fencing attached to the home
- Window assemblies
- Soffits and overhangs
- Accumulated debris around structures
At Metro Reconstruction Services, we specialize in identifying these vulnerabilities and recommending practical solutions designed to improve your home’s resistance to wildfire exposure.
Lessons Learned from the Marshall Fire
The Marshall Fire changed how many Colorado homeowners think about wildfire preparedness.
Many homes that were lost were not located directly within forested areas. Instead, wind-driven embers traveled long distances and ignited vulnerable components of homes.
Our team participated in cleanup and reconstruction efforts following the Marshall Fire and witnessed firsthand the types of building components that failed and the mitigation measures that could have reduced risk.
This experience allows us to provide homeowners with practical recommendations based on real-world wildfire damage observations—not just theoretical wildfire planning.
What Does Metro’s Free Fire Mitigation Evaluation Include?
Our complimentary Fire Mitigation and Prevention Evaluation helps identify potential wildfire vulnerabilities around your property.
During the evaluation, we may review:
- Defensible space concerns
- Deck and under-deck conditions
- Siding vulnerabilities
- Fencing attached to the home
- Vent locations and protection
- Vegetation near structures
- Ember exposure concerns
- Exterior construction materials
- General home hardening opportunities
Our goal is to help homeowners understand which improvements may provide the greatest wildfire protection benefits for their property.
Important Program Limitations
Not all wildfire-related work qualifies for the 2026 General Rebate Program.
Examples of activities that are currently NOT eligible include:
- Weed whacking
- Tree removal
- Slash removal
- Slash chipping
- Leaf removal
- Pine needle removal
- Applying fire-retardant coatings to fences
- Planting vegetation
- Enclosing areas beneath decks
Homeowners should verify eligibility requirements before beginning any project.
For the most current program details, homeowners should consult official Wildfire Partners program information.
