Wooo hooo! For most of us, snow shoveling season is over. Spring has arrived and the snow is beginning to melt. As you bring out the patio furniture and put away your winter boots, a whole new set of problems are lurking around the corner: water damage!

Has the Colorado winter left your home vulnerable?

If you spot water damage in your home, talk to your insurance agent about finding a quality home inspection and restoration crew to fix the problem now and for good.

As the snow and ice starts to melt and disappear, make sure it’s not disappearing into cracks and crevices in the exterior of your home, causing potential water damage and mold issues.  Just because the calendar says it is officially Spring, and we’re enjoying a few sunny days in Colorado, that doesn’t mean that a few frost ridden nights aren’t still ahead. This means that snow and ice will melt during the day, and freeze up again at night. This is a recipe for disaster. As the ice melts, the water will find its way into any small crack or gaps in your roof, foundation or improperly installed or damaged stucco. When the water freezes again at night, it expands. When the it expands, so does the crack, opening up an even bigger point of entry for when the ice melts again the next day. It’s a dangerous cycle, and at the end you have a house filled with toxic mold and bacteria. This is bad for your house, and it’s bad for your health.

Once you spot water damage in your home it could just be a drop in the bucket. Get a professional inspection and get to the root of the problem.

Water give us life, but it could be the death of your home if you don’t take proper precautions. Water can seep in where you least expect it, and by the time you notice the damage the problem could be much more extensive than you think.
