Colorado Spring is beautiful, this time of year comes along with many exciting seasonal changes including the budding of trees and flowers, longer days, and thawing of snow and ice. However, with seasonal changes come potential seasonal problems. Check out these simple steps from Metro Reconstruction Services to help you anticipate any events that may cause property damage to your home or office during the spring season.
Divert Water
Check for clogged downspouts or loose or leaky gutters. Make sure downspouts drain away from the foundation, at least 5 feet, and are clear of debris. Existing and new landscaping projects should divert water away from the property. Improper drainage can lead to water damage to the foundation or basement.
Washing Machine
Inspect your washing machine fill hose and look for cracks that could become leaks. A leaky hose under pressure can cause major damage in a short period of time. Consider changing to a no-burst hose to reduce your risk for water damage.
Dryer
Clean your dryer vent and inspect the outside exhaust. Not all lint is caught in the lint trap and can clog the vent. A clear vent will save you money by reducing the time your dryer has to run. A plugged vent is not only less efficient, but it can cause a fire.
Refrigerator
Vacuum your refrigerator coils. The coils on the bottom or back of your refrigerator conduct the hot air from inside the unit. If it’s coated with dust, they are less efficient and cause your fridge to work harder increasing your electric bill. Use a vacuum cleaner hose or a brush to clean the coils. While you’re cleaning the coils, check water lines for leaks to avoid water damage.
